Three lessons I learnt from turning forty

Last week, I turned 41, completing my first year of a new — and famously unsettling — decade.
As the big day approached, people either said to me that life begins at forty — or that a mid-life crisis was just around the corner. In reality, both are probably a little bit true. But whether you arrive at the milestone bleary-eyed from having young kids in your thirties, or you’ve been focusing on achieving professional success, or both, it is definitely a birthday that can stop you in your tracks.
